At St. Paul's Boarding & Day School, Kolkata, the Nursery programme is thoughtfully designed to introduce young learners to the world of education through a safe, nurturing and engaging environment. The Nursery curriculum follows a Playway Method, where children learn through activities, games, music, storytelling and interaction. This approach ensures that learning remains natural, enjoyable and meaningful, while supporting cognitive, emotional and social development.

Children are introduced to the formation of standing and sleeping lines, which are the building blocks of writing. Through tracing, drawing and guided activities, they develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and control, preparing them for future writing tasks.
The concept of numbers is introduced in a fun and engaging manner. Children learn to recognise and understand numbers from 1 to 20 through counting activities, matching exercises and visual aids. This builds early numeracy skills and logical thinking.
Language learning begins with the recognition of English alphabets (capital and small letters). Children are encouraged to listen, speak and gradually identify letters through stories, pictures and classroom interaction, laying the foundation for reading and writing.
Phonics plays a key role in early literacy. Children are introduced to letter sounds, helping them connect alphabets with sounds and objects. This strengthens pronunciation, listening skills and early reading readiness.
Students learn to recognise and identify basic colours through creative activities such as colouring, sorting and matching. This enhances visual perception, creativity and cognitive development.
Children are introduced to simple concepts about themselves, including their name, family and basic habits. This helps build self-awareness, confidence and identity, which are essential for emotional development.
Basic general awareness and social understanding are developed through simple topics such as family, surroundings and daily life. Children begin to understand relationships, routines and their environment, fostering early social skills.
Nursery rhymes and action songs form an important part of daily learning. Through music, rhythm and movement, children develop memory, coordination, listening skills and expressive abilities in a joyful manner.
